The Odyssey Project by Sperry, is a compelling, experiential and content-creation initiative that celebrates inspirational discoveries and encourages individuals to move out of their comfort zones, visit unexpected places, try unfamiliar things and discover more about themselves and the world around them.
Launching in conjunction with the brand’s 80th anniversary, Sperry is sending 80 ambassadors around the world to document their journeys in diverse locations such as The Aran Islands of Ireland, Mu Ko Surin Thailand and the Louisiana Bayou. Sperry identified these ambassadors (entrepreneurs, photographers, musicians, bloggers and more) as “Intrepids”—modern-day explorers, fueled by a passion for discovery—not unlike the brand’s intrepid founder, Paul Sperry.
The Odyssey Project hands over control of the content to the 80 ambassadors who are experiencing it.
The first few odysseys included: Bebban Stenbor and Ted Malmros of Swedish rock band Shout Out Louds, who traveled to Thailand to live with the Moken tribe, a 3,500-year-old culture of sea nomads.
Brooklyn based photographer Andre D. Wagner was sent to the Hawaiian island Lanai where he was cut off from all human contact and challenged to capture self-portraits that reflected his experience.
Kari White (entrepreneur and sister of Olympian Shaun White) traveled Ireland’s Great Atlantic Way to discover more about her Irish roots.
