112 Years of American Heritage: Indian Motorcycle

1920 1277 Eric Gardner

When a brand has more than a century behind it, heritage is the word that more often than not, defines and re-defines said brand. Well try 112 years and counting, because that’s exactly the number of years Indian Motorcycle, America’s first, oldest and one of the most iconic brands, has under its belt. Yes we know, we’re hell bent on all things four wheels, loaded with plush interiors and packing anything over 500 horsepower, but in the world of V-Twin engines and cross country cruisers you probably won’t find a better dream ride than an Indian. Since 1901, Indian has lead by example paving the way for what is now tradition. Often imitated but never duplicated, their historic bikes continue to grace the smooth and rough roads of America with ease catching the eye of die hard riders and followers alike.

Style Meets The Road
The 2014 Indian® Chief® Classic is everything an Indian Motorcycle® was and ever should be. It’s a sculpted, powerful cruiser, built with the purest necessities of Indian style, wrapped around the innovation of tomorrow. It features iconic Indian Motorcycle elements such as Valanced fenders, rich genuine leather, instrumentation atop the tear-drop fuel tank, and the lit War Bonnet guiding the way from the front fender.

It also has value-added features usually found only on big-ticket customs. Standard – yet special – features on the Indian Chief Classic include extensive chrome, keyless ignition, ABS, cruise control, throttle by wire, and an innovative cast aluminum frame with integrated air intake.

Powering this new generation of Indian Motorcycles is the all-new Thunder StrokeTM 111. This smooth, powerful and efficient new engine combines both style and power, displaying the same finning, and parallel pushrod tubes as seen on earlier Chiefs of the 1940s. A 49-degree, air-cooled V-twin with 6-speed overdrive transmission, with an unmatched premium exterior finishes and touches, it offers owners the peace-of-mind that comes from over two million miles of on-road and test-lab verification and Polaris Industries’ sixty years of engineering prowess.

Reaching A New Level of Iconic

The Indian® Chief ® Vintage brings iconic Indian styling to a whole new level. Special features unique to the Chief Vintage include the quick release windshield and stunningly detailed leather saddlebags, which you can install or remove without tools in minutes to convert your bike between cruiser and soft bagger. Also easy to install or remove is the distressed tan leather fringe for the leather seat. Chrome fender tips add style and protection, and there’s a chrome script vintage badge on the front fender.

The Indian Chief Vintage has iconic Indian Motorcycle® features such as valanced fenders, multi-function instrumentation atop the tear-drop fuel tank, and the lit War Bonnet guiding the way up front. The comfortable seat and spacious saddlebags feature natural tan leather that will become even more distinguished over time.
